Martie

Writer. Speaker. Advocate (LGBQ, TGNC). Baking restores my soul. I began learning to cook around age 4 when I'd help my mom in our 1970s harvest gold, red poppy, and coopertone kitchen. She had eliminated all processed stuff and sugar from our diets and everything we ate was homemade: whole wheat bread & pizza crust, baked potato chips, "cheese straws," and that nasty peanut butter with no sugar whatsoever and a 3" layer of oil on top that you had to stir every time before using. My Dad was a local news anchor and I fondly remember many dinner parties where the 'good' food would make an appearance. Like homemade sugar cookies w/icing, cucumber sandwiches on WHITE bread, and some type of red punch with ginger ale. Saturday morning cartoons & cereal were the best. Baking is still my favorite hobby, and I have an affinity for sweets! When not baking, I'm writing, speaking, and advocating for the LGBTQ community, and primarily, trans & gender nonconforming youth. I've been a frequently featured contributor for HuffPost, Medium, Scary Mommy, etc.
