I use this site for recipe scoping, & generally incorporate others' suggestions. Modifications were: 1) Subbed 2% milk for evaporated milk 2) Subbed Tilapia for Cod 3) Subbed corn for mushrooms 4) Tripled celery 5) Added 1.5 tsp hickory flavored liquid smoke 6) left out salt & pepper (better to let people add it to taste & according to any diet restrictions). Cooked in crock pot on high temp for 4 hours & served with Rosemary Ciabatta bread & tossed salad w/ balsamic vinaigrette. Made a pleasant, satisfying, wholesome meal that was not too heavy. Somewhat bland, so added liquid smoke, but may add more Old Bay if I make it again. Seems fairly healthy & easy, so makes for a nice, warm satisfying dish that you can feel good about eating & serving to your family. Easy to make, but giving it only four stars because it is rather bland as written & needs doctoring to make it interesting enough to want to eat. I recommend adding spices according to your taste (we liked liquid smoke, salt & more Old Bay seasoning...other recommendations included Thyme & Marjoram). Bon Appetit!
Made this dough using the exact recipe, opted to form into 15 rolls instead of one loaf, & did NOT use the optional egg wash. Nice flavor, but they would not brown (even though I sprayed with H2O 3X while baking). Texture was not as good as other similar recipes on this site (see Jo's Rosemary Bread, which has a much more authentic "Ciabatta-Tuscan" texture). With egg-wash it probably would have browned nicely, but you shouldn't HAVE to do this to make it visually appealing enough to eat. Served these with delicious Pasta Fagioli & a nice tossed salad, but no one touched them... I think it was because they did not brown. If you want moister bread (maybe for sandwiches) this is your recipe, but the egg wash should NOT be listed as optional if you want your bread to brown normally & look good.
Very delicious & absolutely adorable. Changes included: 1) subbed crunchy peanut butter for smooth 2) added canola oil (in addition to shortening) to melted chocolate because it was difficult to get smooth, even after stirring with a wire wisk for a long time 3) made 1.5 times the melted chocolate b/c it hardens quickly. Used half of a plastic Easter egg that opens lengthwise to form the eggs, then placed them in melted chocolate by sliding a fork under the flat bottom to pick them up. Great treat for the holidays...enjoy!
Good base recipe to build from. Added 7 tablespoons (additional 3 tablespoons than what the recipe indicated) BBQ sauce. Cooked at 250 F for 85 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. Kids & hubby loved it, although I may add 8 tablespoons BBQ sauce or add some BBQ rub to the seasoning mix the next time (I like my snacks heavily seasoned). If adding additional BBQ sauce you will need to bake longer, or you could possible reduce the butter to compensate for the extra BBQ sauce. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves BBQ...enjoy!
Would probably give this 4.5 stars if I could refine my rating to that degree. Added 3/4 teaspoon cayenne paper & subbed peanuts for the pistachios. Nice mild seasoned flavor with a little kick...would recommend to anyone bored with the routine Chex mix recipes & wanting to try something new!
