I always add some basil pesto to mine and it adds just the right addition spice and flavour.
I used to make them like this, but now mix all ingredient except the Jalapeno, cut them in half and take out seeds and membrane then fill them the cheese mixture to which I add garlic then bake them in the over with bacon wrapped around them. Use a foil lined cookie sheet. To die for. Good even warmed in the microwave.
This sounds like an excellent base for homemade chicken soup when someone has a cold or is feeling under the wather.
I found they taste just as good without all the fuss have putting a coating on them, just wrap a strip of bacon around them and put them in the oven. Also the sharp cheddar with some minced garlic and the herb cream cheese make a difference to the flavour.
I do this much the same except I add celery but no garlic, remove the bone chop the ham and for a 6 qt. pot use 1 pkg. yellow split peas. It is the best came from my Mother & Gradmother. The best, always get raves for it's flavour.
I have made these and they are to die for. Yes make an extra large batch and "if" you have too many store them in a brown paper bag.
You can also put large cans of tomatoes, etc. in a plastic bag and put them on top of the plate for weight. I tried that when I made Kim Chee and it worked great.
I bet this would be good with fresh grated Parmeson cheese.
I prefer to add the dressing to the warm pasta so it takes on the flavour. My favourite is French Dressing. I leave out the bacon and parmesan but add radishes, chopped green onion and peppers for colour. My family like shrimp or tuna. Make sure you add enough black pepper and take it easy with the salt. Mix all together and leave overnight in the fridge for better flavours.
These are excellent, but you can substitute extra old cheddar cheese.
Use 1/2 inch thick slices of ham and layer the ingredients. Sliced onion is nicer and use milk not water for a heartier meal.
It should give the number of cups or size of potatoe to use since they vary so much. I would use 2 cups shredded and add pancake flour, eggs, etc. to make them hold together then pan fry. Brown on both sides and put on tray in oven until all are cooked. This insures they are cooked through and not raw.
