This was a BIG hit when my in laws came for Sunday dinner. My sister in law is a vegetarian so I always try to make something to accomaodate all. This was perfect with meatballs on the side for meat lovers and garlic bread. I just made a few changes. I omitted the nutmeg and basil and opted instead for a lil Italian seasoning. I used fresh broccoli instead. I steamed it for 5 minutes in the microwave, chopped into tiny pieces, and tossed it with a pinch of garlic powder before adding it to the ricotta mixture. This dish was very tasty and very easy to make. It made a beautiful presentation. My husband has asked for it again and my daughter, who is almost 1, loved it as well. I'll be making this for my daughters first birthday party since it's perfect to assemble ahead of time and just heat on the big day. A definite keeper.
This cake wasn't great....just OK. It didn't taste buttery at all. I added rum extract instead trying to recreate the flavor of butter rum muffins I find at my bakery. The bottom layer was extremely dry and the top layer didn't taste as good as it sounded. It was also very unattractive. It browned around the edges. Of all the people who tried it only my grandmother liked it. She's on Weight Watchers and doesn't get treats often so it was easy to please her. She did insist it was some kind of cheesecake with a wierd crust even though I explained it was supposed to be a butter cake. She insisted I must have mixed up recipes. I might try this again with some of the other suggestions on making the bottom layer moist and I probably won't cook it as long. I think I'll even switch and use butter flavor. Isn't that what this is supposed to taste like.
I made this using coconut milk instead of regular milk and it was the best coconut pudding you will ever taste. The dry ingredients I added first with a bit of cinnamon and i stirred to break up all the lumps. Then turn the heat on and slowly add the milk while stirring. You can dress it up with a lil toasted coconut on top but it's also good without.
It definitely needs the vanilla. For the first 15 minutes I roasted them at 375 and then lowered the temperature. My husband, daughter and I finished them all in a night. We couldn't stop going back for more. I'm going to make three batches of these and wrap them in decorative paper as Xmas treats for co-workers. Update: I added 1/2 tsp almond extract and that made them unbelievable. They were a hit everywhere I took them. Thanks for the wonderful recipe.
I brought these to my daughters class Thanksgiving feast and they were a flop.I added a 1/4 of brown sugar and cinnamon. The kids hated it. I'm glad I also brought cheesy broccoli which suprisingly they gobbled up.
Definitely Better Than Libby's Reccipe I used to use a recipe with evaporated mil and sugar but this one has that beat by far. The textyre is creamier and I feared it wouldn't be sweet enough but it was perfect. I did add extra cinnamon and cut the nutmeg and ginger in 1/2 since we love cinnamon. I also added a drop of vanilla. I filled a Keebler graham crust and 3 mini crusts. They were yummy. My daughter took a mini to school and was the envy of classmates and her teachers. This is the one I will use from now on.
This is one fabulous cake that everyone requests come holiday time. I like to use vanilla rum and add a splash of almond extract to the cake mix. I also use chopped pecans instead of the walnuts. I let the cake cool in the pan, poke holes in it with a BBQ skewer and invert it. I brush the glaze on, pour a bit of glaze in the pan and pop it back in. Then I pour the remaining glaze on top of the cake and I make sure to let some drizzle down the inside of the pan. I always make it the night before I'm going somewhere and take it in the pan. I then invert it once I get there and take my pan home with me.
These weren't good at all. I tried them because I love almond flavor and thought they would be a nice and easy addition to my Xmas baking. TERRIBLE. They aren't anything like bars but more like a dry cake. The flavor is horrible. The almond flavor is there but I still taste flour. The confectioner's sugar doesn't help but I find it actually makes it worse. I can taste flour and the sugar gives me the powdery texture that makes me feel as though I am eating flour. They are also very unattractive. I don't see how this would sell at a school bake sale. I 've volunteered at my daughter's school bake sales and the goodies that go are the ones with chocolate or sprinkles or colored sugar. These might be good dunked in coffee but since I don't drink coffee I could care less. They might work at a nursing home bake sale. That's how bland they were.
I love Mexican lasagna but I make it slightly different. Instead of the Rotel and the diced tomatoes I use my favorite salsa. Ricotta and eggs aren't necessary either. Try using a layer of sour cream. Top with beef mixture (ground beef is what my family likes) and top that with a layer of Mexican cheese blend or cheddar. It's much better and actually tastes Mexican. Layer the top with salsa and cheese and when it's done cooking sprinkle with cilantro or green onion.
I love Malibu Pineapples. My husband likes to top it off with a splash of cranberry juice.
I just recently returned from the Pennsylvania Dutch country and tried oatmeal pie, there, for the first time. I couldnt wait to try to make it at home. It is super easy, especially if you use a ready made pie crust, and delicious. This recipe is perfect. I added vanilla but I always add extra vanilla to baked goods. Make sure you cook it long enough so the top crisps up a bit. It really is reminiscent of pecan pie w a hint of coconut. Don't omit the coconut. It really adds depth to the pie.
These were incredible especially for my first time making hot wings. I added pepper, garlic and onion powder to the flour mixture. I refrigerated for 2 hours. I fried in my deep fryer till crisp, then drained on paper towels. I used Srirahcha hot sauce in the butter mix and topped the wings with the sauce and then gently mixed with a spoon to get them evenly coated. My hubby and friends said they were the best wings they had ever had!
