OMG!!! I threw 2 on the grill & literally forgot them while inside doing other stuff. Then, surprise, we ended up having 6 extra people for dinner. There was almost a brawl over these. Fabulous! Easy! And very forgiving if you're forgetful, lol. Make extra!!!
This worked well. It was an easy recipe to change from my normal store bought sauce to a homemade, organic sauce. Thank you. We tweaked the spices to our liking.
I've been making this soup for years. It is a family, friends & neighborhood favorite. We like it so much that it's made 30-40 quarts at a time and shared. It is an extremely forgiving recipe. When I make it I use Sweet Italian and Hot Italian sausage in equal parts. Then there's no need for the red pepper flakes, etc. Cream adds a better flavor than regular milk and should be added at the end. And, for some reason, it doesn't matter how much kale you add, it's not enough (lol). Just stuff as much kale in as the pot will take. Thank you for posting the recipe. When friends ask I've never been able to figure out the small amounts for a "normal" pot of soup. Now I can send them to this recipe.
We have a bridal shower coming up. Tried this recipe to prepare for it. We didn't like the texture or flavor. I tried adding the additional spices others recommended but none of us liked it.
Made this today for my Dad who's recovering from Pancreatitis. I don't normally eat any bean soups. But, it has plant protein and all goodies to heal the body. It was VERY good! I added 2 parsnips and increased to 2 bay leaves. I sauteed the veggies and then put it in a crockpot for the day. at dinner time I took some out & pureed it as another suggested. Phenomenal, healthy & easy.
