Great Recipe. I omitted the potato and used panko breadcrumbs instead. I also made a lemon aioli to go on the side for dipping. Very good dish with no complaints from the family nor leftovers!
easy recipe only acception is that I didn't have the dried onion soup so I added 2 tsp of Worchester, beef broth instead of water and added carrots towards the end.
I have to agree that cutting down on the amount of oil used to make the rue would help with the oily film that showed up after simmering for the first hour. In addition to the bell peppers and onion that that recipe called for I added frozen okra, cut carrots and used smoked Kelbasa since that's what I had available. In addition to the Cajun seasoning I also added Cayanne Pepper which gave the Gumbo a nice heat factor. Overall a great recipe and my family loved it!!
made this using heavy whipping cream since I did not have any half and half at the time. Also used Romano and Parmesan cheeses in the mixture. Sauce is a bit thicker but the family loved it all the same. The different cheeses gave it a rich bold flavor.
