I thought this was very good. It was well seasoned, but per other reviews, I added Taco Seasoning I (by Bill Echols on this site) to the meat. I also used homemade taco sauce. This was very well spiced. I do agree with others who did not prefer the re-fried beans. Next time I will use only whole beans. I made a couple of additions: 1 pastilla pepper, and 1 cup of sweet frozen corn (adds a nice sweet crunch). I didn't add the green chilies because I didn't have any, and I used regular diced tomatoes (in pantry) More cheese would be an improvement. Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipe!
I have made this several times to excellent reviews. But I don't care what anyone else thinks--I love it! The only changes I make is that I use any type of sausage that I have in the freezer, and I prefer the more spicy dinner sausage. Also, I buy frozen or dried beans when available. It's not too much extra work, and much more healthy without the pthalates from the cans. Be sure to soak the beans the night before.
Excellent! I made this for Mother's Day cookout to rave reviews! I followed recipe to a T. I made again to take for lunch. This time, I used colored peppers (on sale, and beautiful!) and added extra can of beans to keep me full for the whole day. Low fat, no regular wheat (used spelt flour due to wheat intolerance) Make a bunch, it can be eaten throughout the week!
excellent! I followed the recipe except I substituted soy milk (we don't eat milk) and didn't add the extra salt (there's enough from the bouillon. It's easy to make with stuff I usually have in the fridge/pantry
Very good as written, EXCELLENT with the caramel on the rim and on the bottom. For those who think it is "too strong:" Please see the definition of a martini. If you add juice, and it's just a mixed drink in a martini glass. And for those who thought it "tasted" too strong, get a better quality of vodka! This drink is sweet(which I like)and strong(appropriate)and goes down like candy with the caramel syrup. Be Careful!!
Very easy. I used what I had: I brushed the naan with coconut oil, then toasted the garlic on top in the broiler, topped with medium cheddar slices, sliced cherry tomatoes, grilled brown onion, ham, dried basil and black pepper. It was a big hit.
Very good. But also very sweet. I had mine over ice, and it was better. Actually it was EXCELLENT over ice. My new go to drink!
Okay, so I didn't follow the recipe precisely. I used red potatoes plus Yukon gold (what I had). More importantly, I subed the condensed cream soups with chicken noodle (also what I had). I used powdered milk as well. (We're not milk drinkers) It came out great! Maybe a little less creamy than otherwise due to the substitution, but both hubby and I loved it. For those whose potatoes didn't get cooked...I don't know what to say. But you can't blame the recipe for your bad potatoes! Next time I will make a run to the store for the cream soups. But in the meantime, thanks for the great recipe! It's obviously very forgiving... Oh, yeah. Re the cooking time: I did brown the top for an extra 10 minutes.
I make this every few weeks. I have to TRY to NOT make it every night so my family doesn't get tired of it. When I first tried it, I had horseradish in the fridge, so I subed (1 Tbs) that for the black mustard seed until I had used it up. Then, I went to the local Pakistani market and bought the black mustard seed. I like the horseradish better! Very oily, can get by with 1/2 the oil, I think. I use frozen green beans for convenience. (I've tried fresh--wasn't an improvement, in my opinion.) Use crushed red pepper flakes in place of the chili pepper(about 1 tsp--we like spicy). This will get your family to eat more vegetables, and is super easy!
Wow! I am impressed. We have significant dietary restrictions in our family, so I tweaked the recipe significantly, yet it still came out fabulous! I subbed rice milk+lemon juice for the buttermilk, applesauce for the sugar, and spelt for the flour. Wow! Definitely a keeper! Thanks for sharing!
I used this recipe as a starting point. It came out great! Didn't cook pasta, used whole wheat and regular mixed. I try to avoid canned stuff, so I replaced the condensed cheese soup with 10 ounces of water and an extra 1/2 cup cheese. I used 8 oz of cheddar and about 10 oz of a combination of Parmesan, mozzarella, Asiago, and feta (I had them in the fridge). Also added 1 tsp onion powder, 1/4 tsp each cayenne, mustard powder, nutmeg and paprika, and omitted the salt. Because I was home, I added the cheddar in the last hour of cooking as recommended by others. I'll probably make another batch next week! Thank you, Cathy P!
Simple and delicious comfort food. Thank you for sharing
