Oyako Donburi

Rating: 4.5 stars 125
This is a popular (at least in Hawaii) Japanese dish which is often served at restaurants in individual bowls. Oyako means mother and child, hence the main ingredients, chicken and eggs.

Beef Pho

Rating: 4.5 stars 145
Richly-seasoned bone broth served with rice noodles and thin-sliced beef.

Mama's Italian Wedding Soup

Rating: 4.5 stars 795
This hearty soup was inspired by a soup I tasted at an Italian wedding. It is sure to please just about everyone! Serve hot with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.

Pasta e Fagioli a la Chez Ivano

Rating: 4.5 stars 445
I have been preparing this magnificent pasta and bean soup, unchanged for over 30 years, and confess that of the very many Pasta e Fagioli I have tasted none even came close to a reasonable comparison to this superb dish Italiano. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese if desired. Makes many servings and is excellent the next day. Should the soup become too thick it may be thinned with broth. Have many Chicago hard rolls, red wine, baguettes or garlic bread on hand. BUON APPETITO!

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Rating: 5 stars 2400
A hearty, rich, and creamy mushroom soup with dill, parsley, and paprika.

Asian Chicken Noodle Soup

Rating: 4 stars 40
This is an authentic, 'home-style' dish served in Taiwanese homes. You can vary the easy-to-buy ingredients however you want to yield as many servings as you want. Try adding a couple of tablespoons of whole kernel corn. Super easy to make, kids can do it too! Tender noodles coupled with subtle chicken broth, all with succulent pieces of chicken, exotic shitake mushrooms and a slow-simmered egg ... my favorite rainy-day meal!

Asian Mushroom Soup

Rating: 4.5 stars 102
Assorted mushrooms, vegetables, chicken, and noodles mingle well in this hearty and healthy soup.

Dal Makhani (Indian Lentils)

Rating: 4.5 stars 80
Ever go to an Indian restaurant and wonder how they make those lentils? I hated lentils before I discovered Indian food. Then I scoured the internet to figure out how they achieved them, and through mixing and matching recipes and methods on videos, I've arrived at this recipe, which I think is pretty close. This version is very rich, but you can leave out the cream to make it lighter. Kasuri methi (fenugreek leaves) is almost impossible to find in the U.S., even in NYC, but it gives this dish something very special.

Punjabi Sukha Urad Dal

Rating: 4.5 stars 18
This is a very comforting dal for a cold day. Urad dal is stickier and heavier than other dals, so this is a thick-style dal. Serve with fresh phulkas with some chopped onion, tomato, and cucumber (kheera) salad on the side for crunch.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Rating: 4.5 stars 7408
An easy-to-prep, hearty chicken taco soup that will feed a hungry crowd.

Pumpkin, Kale, and Black Bean Stew

Rating: 4.5 stars 33
This is a delicious stew loaded with pumpkin, black beans, ham and kale. Served with whole grain bread, it makes for a complete and hearty fall meal. Garnish with more sliced sorrel, if desired.

Chef John's Bay Scallop Chowder

Rating: 5 stars 60
Every once in a while I make a dish that no matter how great it tastes, I just can't get past how it looks, and that was the case with this very easy, incredibly delicious scallop chowder. If you do make it, and want a thicker, more traditional chowder base, simply mash some of your potatoes into the mixture.
