I don't usually peel potatoes, so I didn't for the bread. I used soy milk instead of the cream. Whole wheat flour was 2 cups, and I cut the white flour down because of that. My family ate both loaves in one day, it was that good!
I expected sweet, but got savory. I had fried the onions in the butter before adding the pumpkin. Very tasty when you get over the fact that this isn't sweet!
This is hearty and fragrant when made with half whole wheat flour and half white flour. I also used honey in place of the brown sugar. Wonderful on it's own, ven better with pumpkin apple butter!
Loved this recipe! Not overly sweet. When I made the baking mix using 2 1/4 cups flour, 1 T. bkaing powder, 3/4 tsp. salt, and 1/2 cup shortening, I had to use all of it to make a double batch of cookies firm enough to roll out. I prefer them without frosting or glaze. At a church social, these went fast!
Compact, dense bread with plenty of grain flavor. Can be sliced thin! This is a "keeper" recipe!
This coarse textured bread is delicious! Smells of sauerkraut, onion and caraway all form a pleasant aroma. I made this by hand, so I baked it at 375 for about 35 minutes. We will be making this again!
Did not use machine, made this by hand. The amount of yeast should probably be cut in half, and it would have been much better. A packet of yeast is 2 1/4 tsp, so doubled is 4 1/2 tsp, or 1 1/2 T. A typical loaf of bread uses 1 packet yeast. I'll try it again using 1/2 the amount of yeast called for.
Milk and sour cream are not an option. Without that extra moisture, it would be too dry. We loved the taste and texture. We will be making this again!
I did not like the way this rose, then flattened out. The flavor was very good, but the bacon should be used for something other than cupcakes. If I had not put the bacon in, this crumbly cake would have been great for Cake Balls! The only change I made was that I put instant coffee and 1 cup of cold water in the batter; that should not have given me the results I got!
Made 2 loaves, 1 with roasted seeds, the other with raw seeds. I also increased the whole wheat flour to 1 cup, and decreased the bread flour to 1 cup. Very good breads! We prefer the nutty flavor of the one with the roasted seeds more! We will be making this again!
Even though we changed a few ingredients, we loved it! I used 1 T Italian seasoning instead of the basil, black instead of green olives, and snow peas for the green color. We loved the flavor combinations! We'll make it again!
The smell is wonderful and the bread looks great! I'm not excited about how dense and chewy this bread is though. I substituted 1 cup of whole wheat flour for the bread flour. The 3/4 cup of crushed Butterfingers amounts to a 3.7 oz. candy bar. This made two smaller loaves which baked at 350 for about 30 minutes.
