This recipe was recommended to me on YouTube and it's the one that introduced me to Chef John. I've made it more than once and it's really good. I also like the jokes and now I'm a big Chef John fan.
No changes Will make it again. It's like an adult version of mac and cheese.
I followed the instructions and it came out correctly: hot center, rosy center, and a flaky bread around the whole thing. It's not hard (just time consuming). Follow Chef John's instructions and it will come out the way it's supposed to. It's getting 3 stars from me though because I did not like the mushroom/pate mixture and this is a flavor that you can't get away from in this dish. So, it's not bad; it's just not for me. Portion size was way too much for me as well.. I also made the pan sauce that we never got the directions for but were promised in the video -- but easy to look up elsewhere. I served this with a store bought kale salad because I like kale salad and I didn't want to cook anything else today. It's a very heavy meal.
