I made this and had just a few tips. Definitely use a Cuisinart to blend the carrots after they're cooked. I tried to use my ricer and the carrots broke it!! And I cook it at least an hour to get the carmelizaiton that I love so much. Also, DO NOT substitute margarine for butter.
I think this cake is wonderful and EASY. It reminds me of a plum cake my mom makes out of baby food. Her glaze is made with powdered sugar, though, but this is better because when I slice a piece of this I dip both sides of the cake back into the icing, and boy is it good. I don't know what that other person meant by saying she had a friend that knew how to cook make this and it still didn't come out right. Are you sure your friend really knows how to cook? You can't mess this up. My dog could make it!!
I am very confused about everybody's poor review about it being thin, and all of the other complaints. This soup is fantastic, but it MUST be followed exactly. I think that's the reason everybody is having a problem is they are changing things before they even try it by following the directions. I make this every week, and have never had a problem so I don't know why anyone else is.
This is the best cornish game hen recipe I have ever found. It is absolutley wonderful. Since there are only two in my house, I made two games hens, but left the wine and broth the same (basically the sauce I kept the same) and it turned out perfectly. If I used four hens, I would double the sauce because when I boiled the sauce down it was perfect for two hens. ABSOLUTLEY WONDERFUL. Thank you for a new favorite, and very moist, game hen recipe...Shannon
This is absolutely fantastic. The best I've ever had. I don't make the homemade gravy, though. Takes too much time. I buy the country gravy at the grocery store. You have to buy 2-3 envelopes so you have enough for leftovers. One packet isn't enough. Shannon
These cookies are fantastic. I love them also better than chocolate chip. Mine come out so nice and crispy, and perfectly chewy at the same time, and the taste is wonderful. I put the malted milk balls in a ziplock bag and hit with a rubber mallet to break them up. Hope that helps. Shannon
This is absolutely wonderful. My mother just found this recipe in a cookbook, and that one lady shouldn't have thrown it out. The cookbook said it can keep in the fridge FOREVER...we just pour a little on a block of creamcheese, and i live alone so i just slice as much cream cheese as i will eat that day, and put a little sauce on top, then dip the cracker in it. DO NOT SUBSTITE FOR FAT FREE AND LOW FAT CREAM CHEESE. I am alway baffled when people on here alter recipes before they try them following the exact directions.
I ALWAYS use the box of Tempura batter to make my Monte Cristo's and it is much better than basic batter!
