Healthy and tasty -- best combination ever. This works very well with summer squash also.
I ended up using a sweet onion instead of white, since that is what I had, but this still was a very simple and tasty recipe. I would definately let this sit overnight, it tasted MUCH better then.
Very good! One thing to keep in mind is that most grocery stores (at least around here) have bags of bagel slices in their bakery departments. These are the fresh made bagels from the day before which are run through their bread slicer. Each bag holds about a half dozen bagels in a variety of flavors, just kip the garlic on fruit bagels and use cinnamon instead.
YUMMY!! I ended up using rice vinegar since I didn't have any white wine vinegar but it was still fantastic.
Cake flour has a smaller gluten content than bread or all-purpose flour, so if you are not using cake flour than you will have to reduce the amount of flour in the recipe. I used 3 cups bread flour and it was still a little on the dry side, but it wasn't dry to the point of crumbling apart, and after icing it it was fine. The second time I used 2+3/4 cups and the texture was perfect without a full layer of icing.
I could taste the box, but the rest of my family couldn't and they loved them.
BIG hit in my christmas tins this year. I did had to add some extra water to the batter, it was a bit dry and crumbly as is. Second time around I made it onto bars, worked just as well.
Very good on its own, even better with a diced red pepper and some bread/cracker crumbs on top.
This is perfect when mixed into plain pasta.
