Cake was moist and delicious! The cake does taste better on the second day. All the syrup soaks in and it’s rich and delicious. It needs to be served cold too. My cake was soaked in syrup yet still easy to serve. We made it with Heath and another with snickers, both delicious. I tried to follow recipe but didn’t see condensed milk as an ingredient but used condensed milk before, so I added it. I like the devil food cake mix for this recipe because of the sweetness of the syrup ingredients, you make to your taste. Poke holes with a wooden spoon or chop stick so sauce can soak in, I used an entire can of condensed milk, and about 3/4 bottle of caramel syrup. Added cool whip and candy after cake cooled.
To get the flavor you want you MUST let the dip sit in the refrigerator, overnight is best. It will taste like onions if you mix and eat!!! It must marinate to get the best flavors. Also, squeeze all the water out of the spinach so it will not be so soupie. Adding a little extra spinach may help as well. This recipe is almost exact to knorr recipe, except it’s veggie mix instead of leek mix and knorr suggest green opinions. The taste is very similar, some prefer one over the other. However, you can not go wrong with either soup mix. I pretty much followed the recipe as written. I did add the green onion and pimentos. I also used an entire box of spinach. next time I will use a red bell pepper, a little garlic, more water chestnuts, and a box and a half of spinach for a little more texture. This was my first time making spinach dip and it was a hit. I served it with pita and tortilla chips..
This cake was easy, delicious, and moist. I’m giving it 5 stars even though I made some changes. My family and friends loved it and did not find it gritty or overly sweet as some reviewers stated. The icing/frosting was the best part. From previous experience with box cake mix I knew one box would make two very small layers or one small bundt cake, therefore, I used 1 box lemon cake mix and 1/2 a box of white cake mix. (previous reviews stated lemon was over powering and cake wasn’t lime enough, so that’s why I used white cake mix with lemon mix). I reduced oil to 1 cup and used about a 1/2 cup of fresh squeezed lime juice and 2 1/2 tablespoons of lime zest. I dissolved half package of lime jello in lime juice and the other half in OJ to prevent gritty texture. I used the 4 eggs, 3/4 cup OJ as the recipe stated. The frosting was a little runny even after putting it in the refrigerator. I used 3tablespoons of fresh lime juice. So, I added about 4oz more of cream cheese and 1/4 more butter to help thicken it up. I also added lime zest for flavor. It seemed to bake fast, so I baked at 325 for about 25-30 minutes..
I love coconut, so I Love this drink. I used coconut rum and doubled the rum for extra kick. Very delicious.
I love this dip, I don’t make it exactly like this but it’s the same base. I like my dip creamy not just meaty and we do not eat pork. So, I use 1 roll of turkey sausage 2 -8oz cream cheese, 2cans of rotel. I find I like the 1 cream cheese to 1 can of rotel ratio. If I did a large batch I just double the ingredients. Since turkey sausage is milder I add either cayenne pepper or jalapeños when I need more heat.
