Bring back the spicy potato!

This year, it sure seems like a lot of Taco Bell fans are mad as hell and have decided they're not going to take it anymore. First, there was a widely circulated petition demanding the fast food chain change course and put the Mexican Pizza back on its menu. Now, it looks like (at least a few) vegans have taken to the streets to voice their displeasure.

As a recent viral TikTok shows, Taco Bell saw a small protest of vegans who seemed very displeased about recent menu changes that had interfered with their ability to live mas. Holding aloft a sign that says "Taco Bell Hates Vegans," one unnamed protestor expresses extreme disappointment at Taco Bell's decision to remove potato-based options from its menus.

"I'm pissed about the potatoes, bro," says the unmasked, open-shirted protestor. "I'm pissed about the potatoes," responds Devin Blackburn, who filmed the TikTok. Blackburn also mentioned that he's a vegan who feels he can't really eat there anymore.

While it's entirely possible that this encounter was staged (you can't take everything you see on the internet at face value), there's a real point being made. A number of potato-based options have disappeared from Taco Bell's menu in 2020, narrowing the options for fourth meal-eating vegetarians and vegans.

Though Taco Bell has since added some new menu items to take their place, including items that provide the option to substitute meat for black beans, the betrayal of the disappearing potatoes still stings. If the TikTok's comments are any indication, there are a lot of vegans and vegetarians out there who can sympathize with the protest— even if they may not be ready to join in.

So, hats off to these two bold young men for standing up for what they believe in, and let's hope this brings about some meaningful change.
