Popeyes Quietly Discontinues Cajun Rice and Green Beans

It's a sad day for dirty rice fans.

These days, it's hard to think of Popeyes without considering their chicken sandwich. Way back in the simpler days of 2019, the mere fact that they made a decent piece of poultry that fit between two buns was enough to kick off a "chicken sandwich war" that still rages to this day, with even Boston Market now attempting to enter the fray.

But in war, even the victor doesn't make it back home without suffering casualties. For Popeyes, it would seem that two of the (relatively) healthier sides on their menu have recently been laid to rest. That news comes via The Takeout, who received a tip from the wife of a customer who found out the hard way at the drive thru that Cajun Rice was supposedly no more. Oh, and their green beans too.

The end came rather unceremoniously. Popeyes itself didn't issue any news about the discontinuation until The Takeout put them on the spot, at which point it was officially game over.

"At Popeyes, we are always listening to feedback from our guests and looking for ways to improve our menu," an email from Popeyes to The Takeout confirming the news reads. "So after thoughtful consideration, our Cajun Rice and Green Beans are no longer on the permanent menu. However, we still have a bunch of delicious sides."

Popeyes' take on Cajun Rice may not have been for everybody, but it clearly held a special place in the heart of certain fans of the Cajun chicken joint. If early reactions are any indication, the people are not thrilled with the decision, expressing frustration and sharing tributes to what they considered Popeyes' best side.

It's an unceremonious end for a side that brought joy to those who would routinely order it. Hopefully something bigger and better is on its way to fill the void. At least nobody will mourn the loss of those green beans.
