Most food holidays are pretty great (hello, National Peanut Butter Day and Chocolate Day!), but there are a few that are better than others, of course. And one favorite here at Allrecipes? National Cookie Day, which happens to be today!

There's no better time of the year than to indulge in cookies during the holidays, as there are so many amazing holiday cookies to try. From gingerbread and snickerdoodle to jam thumbprints and peppermint bark, there are several options — all that go great with a glass of eggnog or spiked hot cocoa, I might add.

And to make sure people got the cookies of their choosing, General Mills created a map of America's favorite holiday cookies based on data from baking authorities like BettyCrocker.com, Pillsbury.com, and Tablespoon.com, which explained a favorite holiday cookie option based on state.

A few tasty takeaways: Maine's favorite cookie is a Two-Ingredient Peanut Butter-Chocolate Truffles and Arizona can't get enough of Classic Sugar Cookies (they're not basic—just classic, really!). Washingtonians go nuts for Spritz Cookies, and Candy Cane Cookies are all the rage up in Idaho.

Peanut butter seems to be a clear winner across the board, with Peanut Butter Blossoms being the most popular holiday cookie in the United States, reigning supreme in seven top states: Florida, Pennsylvania, California, Kentucky, Nevada, South Carolina, and Wyoming.

Nebraska is pickier with the chocolate, as it's the only state that prefers its Peanut Butter and Chocolate Cookies with chocolate stars instead of Hershey's Kisses. And while Gingerbread Cookies seem like a holiday pick, only one state chose it as a top cookie — Hawaii.

Another cool fact? Utah likes snow on its cookies, like on the Melted Snowman Sugar Cookies. And Georgia is the only state to claim Cream Cheese Pecan Cookies as its winning treat. Maybe because they are the top producer of pecans?

Of course, there are more, as it's broken down by state. Check out the map above to see what cookie your state happens to love most.
