Lucky Charms

Last year, Lucky Charms pulled on our heart strings and teased our tummies with the release of puffed marshmallows inspired by the iconic cereal brand's beloved crunchy marshmallow bits. They are big and colorful, but they aren't the marshmallows found in the cereal box. That left many fans hoping Lucky the Leprechaun would have another surprise up his sleeve, a bag of only Lucky Charms marshmallows.

The wait may have finally paid off. Today, the cereal brand announced the release of a marshmallow-only pouch called Just Magical Marshmallows.

Earlier this month, it seemed the charms were losing their power, so Lucky called on America's families and actress Tamera Mowry to sing the Lucky Charms song — Hearts, Stars, and Horseshoes. Clovers and Blue Moons. Unicorns, Rainbows, and Tasty Red Balloons! — to restore the cereal's power. And it worked! The power has returned, and it brought a new treat for us all.

The pouch shows illustrated marshmallow bits in the shape of Lucky Charms' iconic sweets, even the unicorn marshmallow, which was added to the mix about two years ago and represented the first real 'mallow update in more than a decade.

However, the bag is marked "limited edition," which means these will magically disappear soon. How soon? We still don't know. They're rolling out now and will be more widely available in September, according to a representative for the brand.

Marshmallow-only bags have been offered before, through promotions, but this marks the first time consumers can buy the pouches themselves.

The six-ounce bag is more than enough for your own Lucky Charms cookies or Lucky Charms ice cream. They'll retail for $3.99.

Lucky Charms is going to celebrate the release of the marshmallow-only bags with "magic celebrations in the sky." On August 31, fans in Los Angeles should look skyward, and on September 1, fans in New York City should do the same for a colorful surprise from Lucky Charms. These are the clues offered:

  • Hollywood (Aug. 31): Take a lunch time walk and keep your eyes on the Hollywood Hills
  • Huntington Beach (Aug. 31): Need an afternoon break? Look towards the beach for a view sure to be as magical as the California sunset
  • New York (Sept. 1): This dinner time spectacle will make you want to go straight to dessert

When they're gone, or if you never find them, plenty of highly-rated dupes are available on Amazon, with many receiving thousands of five-star reviews. Sure, they aren't the real deal, but sometimes you have to create a little of your own magic with what you have.
