45+ Jif Peanut Butter Products Recalled for Potential Salmonella Contamination

The J.M. Smucker Co. issued a voluntary recall on May 20, 2022, for 49 Jif peanut butter products that may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled peanut butter products were sold in stores nationwide and are believed to have originated in the Lexington, Kentucky, facility.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), alongside the CDC, are investigating the Salmonella outbreak, which has impacted 12 states — including Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina, New York, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. There have been 14 reported cases of Salmonella and two hospitalizations caused by the outbreak.

The recalled Jif products have lot codes 1274425 through 2140425. If you have any Jif products in your pantry, even if not recently purchased, you should check the lot codes because the products have a two-year shelf life. Do not consume any recalled products and throw them away immediately. The recalled products include:

The Jif recall also prompted Cargill to recall more than 700 boxes of peanut butter containing products that may be contaminated with Salmonella on May 23, 2022. The products include chocolate-covered peanut butter crackers, peanut butter candy, and fudge that were sold at the Wilbur Chocolate store in Lititz, Pennsylvania, and online on Wilbur Chocolate's site between February 9 and March 28, 2022.

There have been no reported illnesses linked to the consumption of Cargill's products. However, if you have any of the recalled Cargill products, you should throw them away or return any unconsumed portions to the Wilbur Chocolate Retail Store. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems.
