Decorating Easter cakes with candy solves two problems: It eliminates the need for special decorating tools AND no one is going to know whether the cake inside your sugar-laden masterpiece is home-baked or store-bought. It's also equally fun to do with a) kids or b) drunken friends post-brunch. Let us begin our tour of inspiration.

1. Peeps + Mini Eggs + Pastel Candies

Use these to build yourself an Easter Basket Cake...because the only thing better than a basket of candy is a CAKE that's also a basket of candy.

2. Cadbury Mini Eggs

Blogger Lyndsay of Handmade Charlotte reminds us that sometimes the simplest route is best. The toughest part is stopping yourself from eating all the eggs in advance.

3. Mike and Ike

For those of you who prefer a challenge, pastry chef Melissa Kaye shows you how to build this pattern. And yes, that IS a ton of Mike and Ikes. But remember, we're going for WOW factor here.

4. Peeps + M&Ms

There's a whole lotta Peeps hard at work in this moment, striving with all their might to prevent an errant M&M from escaping their clutches. And believe it or not, there's a cake somewhere in there. Let Mrs. Happy Homemaker show you how she made this adorable confection.

5. Peeps + Chocolate chips

Those hardworking Peeps! Now they've gathered 'round a field of chocolate chips to create a chipper sunflower cake. Out of marshmallow. I love America.
