Drinking Enough Water Every Day Is No Sweat With This Tasty Trick
Everybody knows we need to drink more water. As the Mayo clinic reports, "Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired."
Recommendations vary on how much we need, and the amount is influenced by factors like activity level and general state of health. But the bottom line: We gotta replenish.
Might as well make it tasty. After years of keeping a glass of water mostly untouched at my desk as I went about working, I finally hit on a strategy that makes me actually want to drink it.
I simply slice up a fresh tangerine or orange and drop it in a large Mason jar. Then fill 'er up. The water doesn't even need to be cold to be yummy. In fact, it's arguably tastier at room temperature. And as a result, I find myself drinking easily twice as much water during the day.
Some Stats on Daily Water Needs
The Institute of Medicine says women need 2.2 liters of water a day (that's total consumption, which includes water from coffee, wine, soup, etc.); for men, it's 3 liters. By comparison, the old adage "drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day" amounts to almost 2 liters.
We're more than 60 percent water by body weight. Which makes sense. Water has a ton of jobs to do to make our bodies function. Check them out.
