When juicy summer peaches are in season, you're going to want to treat yourself to this quick and easy homemade peach cobbler and the rich and creamy buttermilk ice cream that goes with it.

Created by MasterChef alum, Elise Mayfield — aka Smart Cookie — this family recipe was handed down by her Mawmaw, and was one of the first recipes she learned how to make. How good is it? Smart Cookie's Top Tips:

1. The cobbler batter is very liquidy, but RESIST the urge to stir it into the melted butter when you add it to your baking pan.
2. When you're making your cooked custard ice cream base, you want the sugar and cream mixture to be almost simmering but not boiling.
3. Stir continuously when you're thickening up the base, and don't walk away for a second.
4. Do plan to make the ice cream the day before so it has time to set up in the freezer.
