Halloween is one of the highlights of every candy-wrangler's year. Running door to door demanding and receiving free treats by the fistful. Hunkering down at the end of the night to sort and count and trade—sweet dreams are made of this. But with the move to reduce our sugar intake to improve our health, even the candy industry is encouraging moderation this year. Okay, fine. But that doesn't mean Halloween has to be any less fun. Here are 5 tempting treats that'll delight all the boys and ghouls at your party without adding to the sugar overload.

1. Savory Pumpkin Hummus

This colorful, fall-flavored hummus dares them to dip when you serve it with a platter of cut up vegetables surrounding a whimsical crudité skeleton.

2. Monster Bites

Also known as the devil's dentures. The recipe calls for using candy corn for the teeth, but we love how KGora substituted slivered almonds. If you need to, you could use a sharp paring knife to cut slots to insert the almonds.

3. Spooky Calzone Snake

Gryffindors will love taking a slice out of this Slytherin snake to spill its cheesy pepperoni guts. You can use ready-made refrigerated bread dough to short-cut the prep if dough-making wasn't on your course list at Hogwarts. To give the snake a green sheen, put a few drops of food coloring into the egg wash you brush it with before baking.

4. Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Save the seeds when you carve your pumpkins and roast them up with salt instead of sugar for a crunchy, savory snack. Using this recipe as a starting point, you can experiment with different spices like the mad scientist you are. Label them as "witches' fingernails" if you want to get all ghoulish about it.

5. Halloween Popcorn Hands

Okay, there's a little bit of sugar in this one if you use candy corn as the fingernails, but you can omit the rest of the candy corn in the recipe and just stuff the gloves with popcorn.
