UPDATE February 20, 2020: The recall notices from Contigo aren't finished, as the water bottle and outdoor equipment company announced today they're recalling the same 5.7 million kids' bottles as well as the replacement lids they offered to water bottle owners after the August 2019 recall. In a press release from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Contigo says the water bottles in the recall were sold at a variety of retailers, including Walmart, Target, and Costco, from April 2018 through February 7, 2020. "Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled water bottles and the replacement lids provided in the previous recall," read the CPSC statement. "Take them away from children." If you have questions about the recall, you can call Contigo at 888-262-0622, or visit the Contigo recall web site for more information.

PREVIOUSLY: Beverage container company Contigo announced Tuesday they're recalling nearly six million kids water bottles because of a potential choking hazard.

In the company's recall, Contigo states that 5.7 million of their Kids Cleanable Water Bottles could be a hazard to young users. The bottles' silicone spout may detach from the lid, which could end up in a child's mouth and cause them to choke.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, an additional 157,000 of these water bottles were sold in Canada, and another 28,000 were sold in Mexico.

The recall comes after Contigo received 149 reports of the spout coming off the bottle. Of those, 18 spouts were found in children's mouths.

Bottles in the recall include their 13-, 14,- and 20-ounce bottles that were sold individually, as well as in two- and three-packs. The brand name is printed on the rim of the bottle and along the front, near the bottom of the bottle, Contigo said in its recall. The base of the lid and the spout cover are black on all recalled bottles. Images of the recalled bottles can be viewed here.

The recalled bottles were sold in stores like Costco, Walmart, and Target, as well as other stores and online retailers between April 2018 and June 2019. Prices ranged from $9 to $24.

If you believe your child has one of these bottles, stop using it immediately, and keep the bottles out of a child's reach. Contigo will send you a free replacement lid if you make a formal request.
