1. Shop at West Side Market

A Cleveland staple for more than 100 years, this indoor-outdoor market is a must-do. It's home to dozens of vendors and artisans selling just-picked produce, baked treats, fresh fish and meats, and so much more. The surrounding neighborhood houses Cleveland's hottest restaurants and breweries, so you'll want to plan a full day of exploring — just not on Tuesdays or Thursdays when the market is closed.

2. Eat Lunch at Danny's Deli

Don't let its small outward appearance fool you; family-owned Danny's is a big Cleveland gem. Its corned beef sandwiches are legendary. Bring your appetite and ask for the Jaw Breaker, a massive serving of the best homemade corned beef you will ever have. But be sure to dine early; Danny's closes daily at 2:30 p.m.

3. Get a Drink at Porco Lounge & Tiki Room

This authentic tiki lounge is a fun stop after dinner. Many of its cocktails are made with freshly squeezed juices and house-made syrups. The drink menu is extensive, so it's hard to pick a favorite. If pressed, I'd go with the Zombie, made with lime juice, passion fruit syrup, and rum. Pace yourself though; the drinks are strong!

4. Visit the Zoo's Indoor Rain Forest

If you're traveling with kids, you'll want to check out The RainForest at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, home to more than 10,000 plants and 600 animals from the jungle. Even in winter, the indoor rain forest habitat is a comfy 80 degrees. Don't forget to stick around for the simulated thunderstorm that rumbles through every 30 minutes on the lower level.

5. Have Short Ribs at Fahrenheit Cleveland

With a sleek atmosphere and intimate feel, this romantic bistro is fabulous for a date night or an evening out with friends. If Kobe beef short ribs aren't your thing, the five-cheese Happy Hour Pizza is also worth writing home about.
